About

Dr. J Ingredient Notes reads the research behind skincare ingredients and writes down what it actually says — the concentration a study used, how long it ran, how many people took part, and what changed.

Most ingredient information online stops at the name. This site tries to go one step further: what concentration is worth looking for, what to check on a label, and how to use it.

Who writes this

Dr. J — MS in Veterinary Medicine, PhD in Life Sciences. Formerly a researcher at the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (KRIBB). Currently runs Beaurea, a cosmetics company.

The training is in reading papers and regulatory documents. That is what this blog does, in plain language.

How posts are written

  • Every claim is traced back to a published study or a regulatory document, and the source is named at the bottom of the post.
  • Study details are stated — number of participants, duration, concentration, and design — so you can weigh the evidence yourself.
  • Where the research is thin or mixed, the post says so rather than filling the gap.
  • Posts describe ingredients, not specific brands.

A disclosure

The author runs a company that manufactures and sells cosmetics. Please read these posts with that in mind.

Posts on this site are written about ingredients in general, and are not written to promote any particular product.

Not medical advice

Everything here is general information. Skin responds differently from person to person. If you are being treated for a skin condition, are pregnant or nursing, or are unsure about an ingredient, speak with a physician or pharmacist before using it.
